Private Violence,
Public Crisis
A Podcast in four acts, based within the County of Los Angeles

Researching the stigma behind gender-based violence, intimate partner violence (IPV), domestic violence (DV), and femicide (female homicide by the hands of a male) within the United States, specifically during this time of Covid-19.
When Covid-19 hit in January, it stood as one of the largest crises this country has ever seen. For DV victims, who were now under the constant surveillance of their abuser, it posed an even greater threat. It is widely believed that cases of abuse have increased, calls to hotlines are currently up but hard data on whether or not cases are being reported is still largely unknown, since we're still currently in the pandemic. Eve Sheedy explained it best during her interview when she stated, “we won't really know what’s happening until we look at the data that we have not yet collected.”
Throughout each of the interviews conducted, community solutions became the constant theme and favorable approach in creating new routines and preventative solutions. Communications Infrastructure was favorably looked upon for promoting civic engagement and enhancing public perception, to improve upon the issue of gender-based violence as well as in preparing for any future crisis laid upon it.
Interviews can be found in the 36-minute podcast posted directly below.
